The Californian Connection

Notes on vineyards in America and Europe, by Thomas Hardy. Adelaide, 1885. "Future of wine-growing in California and Australia."

In 1883 Thomas Hardy, the South Australian vigneron, made an exploratory trip to America and Europe resulting in this work. It has been identified by American wine historian, Thomas Pinney, as "the first book about Californian wine". In 1988 the Book Club of California republished part of this work as The vineyards and wine cellars of California (San Francisco, 1994).
